Brow Lift

Candidates for a brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, are typically individuals looking to correct drooping brows.

Ideal candidates are usually men and women who are physically healthy and non-smokers. This procedure is sought by adults who have developed brow ptosis (sagging of the brows), often as part of the natural aging process, usually in their 40s or older.

Candidates should be free of critical eye-related conditions and have a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for the improvement of their brow and forehead area.

A brow lift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. This procedure is typically performed endoscopically. Small incisions are made behind the hairline, allowing Dr. Tieman to use an endoscope (thin, flexible tube with a camera) to visualize the underlying tissue.  Dr. Tieman then lifts and repositions the brows to create a smoother, more youthful appearance.  Once the desired position is achieved, the incisions are closed with staples.Brow lifts are oftentimes combined with an upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) to help achieve optimal results.

Recovery from a brow lift involves swelling and bruising. These effects typically diminish within two weeks. Patients are advised to use cold compresses and keep their heads elevated for several days to reduce swelling and discomfort. Most patients can resume normal activities within 10-14 days but should avoid vigorous physical activity for several weeks. As your nerves heal, you may experience numbness and discomfort at the incision site(s) including tightness and itching.

Following a brow lift, patients will have staples in their scalp that are removed at their postop appointment.

Brow lift results are visible almost immediately, though final outcomes are more apparent once the swelling and bruising subside. This surgery can rejuvenate the upper portion of the face by raising the eyebrows to a more youthful position and smoothing forehead wrinkles. The results from a brow lift typically last many years. Typically patients report enhanced self-confidence and satisfaction with their appearance.
